About Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg is an American filmmaker and the most commercially successful director in cinema history. Across more than five decades he has directed 35 feature films that together have grossed over $10 billion worldwide, and his filmography spans everything from summer blockbusters like Jaws and Jurassic Park to historical dramas like Schindler's List and Lincoln.
Spielberg movies are built on a sense of wonder: ordinary people swept into extraordinary events, fractured families and absent fathers, and fluid long-take staging that hides its own craft. With Jaws (1975) he effectively invented the summer blockbuster, and his near-lifelong partnership with composer John Williams has scored almost every film he has made. Through Amblin Entertainment and DreamWorks, he has shaped Hollywood as a producer as much as a director.
He won Academy Awards for Best Director for Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, and Best Picture for Schindler's List. His semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans (2022) revisited the childhood that made him a filmmaker, and in 2026 he returned to theaters with Disclosure Day, reuniting with Universal and Amblin.
